The geotexile layer provides a filtration layer to allow water to pass through and reinforcement to the material layers. Reinforcement of the material layers can be further increased using geogrids which are plastic based strips formed or jointed into a open grid or mat or geocomposites which are a combination of geotextile / geogrid formed as one layer of fabric. Geotextiles can be woven or non-woven fabric .
